The end of week 1 at school: The end of observation time

Updated: Mar 6, 2019

It's friday! We are done with our observation week, but even it is assigned as observation week, I don't want to just sit at the corner, i helped in simple ways and Ibu Jesi also gave mo some simple task to do.

My first week at school is great, though I'm having a hard time talking to them because I don't know how to speak Bahasa or Balinese, thanks to google translate! I will try harder also to know their language some of the words that i used to start a conversation with the kids are "nu pa nama mu?" And "apa?", and "Selamat pagi" for greeting good morning. There are also words that are "sama sama" with the Filipino language like mura (cheap), guru (guro in filipino meaning teacher) mu (mo, meaning you) and a lot more.

I would like to commend also their class program, it is really pupil centered, the teacher is a facilitator only, the pupils are going to talk always, to do on-hands activity, discovery learning, learning by doing principle. I think that's when the pupils really learn since kids are naturally curious so it's best for them to do everything by themselves and the teachers beside them facilitating and guiding them. With different activities toys, and arts everyday, having complete resources, mini library, outdoor playground, indoor playground, proper sanitation, media room, LCDs that will surely help students learn in their utmost capabilities. One thing that I observed also is a young age they are expose to 2 major value: sense of discipline and responsibility. In the age of 5-6 years old, they are the ones who arrange and keeps their trays, glasses everyday after eating, they know also that every time they return from outside their classroom, they need to wash their hands.
